NavTrax Expedition OS

Activities · Land · Skill 2 · Moderate risk

Everything you need. Carried, and known.

Two to fourteen days on foot with your whole world on your back. The margins are water, weather and the distance to help — and all three are things the app can model before you leave the trailhead rather than discover on day four.

Pick the activity. The map configures itself.

These layers switch on together, because they are the set this activity actually needs. You can change any of them; the point is that the default is not a blank topo map.

Topographic
Contours, slope and aspect, so a shortcut on the map is a shortcut you can walk.
Trails
Official and community-mapped, with condition reports and closures.
Campsites
Established sites, dispersed camping legality, and distance from water.
Water sources
With community-reported status — the difference between a spring and a dry spring.
Weather
Forecast, radar and, where it matters, the fire and smoke layers.
Cell coverage
Predicted from terrain, so you know where your check-in window closes.

The ways this actually goes wrong.

Every activity in NavTrax carries a documented failure-mode list, and each entry names the feature that addresses it. Not a disclaimer — a design input.

01

Bear encounter

Food storage guidance is activity-scoped, and the wildlife layer shows corridor and recent-activity data for the drainage you are actually in.

02

Waterborne illness

Water sources carry treatment guidance and community status. The medical guides work with the radio off.

03

Gear failure

The kit list is versioned per trip, so a forgotten filter is caught at the trailhead, and the contingency plan names the fallback.

04

Weather trapping

Coverage prediction plus the forecast means a satellite check-in is scheduled at the waypoint before the front arrives, not improvised after.

05

Injury evacuation

Wound triage on the device, then a SAR handoff packet with terrain, landing-zone options and your party’s medical capability already in it.

What the app assumes you already do.

Bear-safe food storage
Guidance scoped to the region and the wildlife layer, not generic advice.
Water purification
Source status and treatment method carried on the layer.
Leave no trace
Dispersed camping legality shown per parcel where the data exists.
Camp away from water
Campsite layer records distance to the nearest source.

The gear list, scoped to this activity.

Pulled from the activity's own equipment profile and matched against the in-app store catalog. Nothing here is a generic recommendation.
